Licensing
You will need to secure a license and pass an inspection before you open your cart for business. The following are some institutions you may need to contact if you are opening your business in the United States:
Department of Motor Vehicles
You will need to register you mobile food cart with the Department of Motor Vehicles in the state you will be operating your business. All Top Dog Carts come with a Manufacturer's Statement of Ownership. You will use this document to obtain your registration.
Health Department
Each state and community has it’s own set of regulations regarding mobile food permits and licensing. Check with your local and state Health Department to know what is required of you. This will be important when building your cart. For instance, most Health Departments require a certain number of sinks on the cart. We will build your cart to meet your state's regulations. For a list of basic criteria, visit our Health Department Basics page.
The health inspector may want to see a schematic of the mobile food cart you are purchasing. We can provide this to you. They may also require an application or form to be completed about your cart. We will be happy to assist you in filling out this document.
Internal Revenue Service
To start a new mobile food business in the United States, you will need a Federal Employee Number (EIN). You may also need a state tax number. Visit the IRS website to learn more.
